Trends and patterns of cancer mortality in Kazakhstan in comparison with some selected European countries from 1986 to 2008
Ashimov, Askat ; Burcin, Boris (advisor) ; Kučera, Tomáš (referee)
Trends and patterns of cancer mortality in Kazakhstan in comparison with some selected European countries from 1986 to 2008 Abstract This thesis primarily addresses mortality patterns and trends by main causes of death and by major neoplasms in Kazakhstan in comparison with the selected European countries: the Czech Republic, France and Sweden during 1986-2008. Within the whole group of main causes of death, the changes of mortality levels in different groups of neoplasms are analyzed. The analysis is accompanied with the comparison of mortality levels from major neoplasms within the selected countries. Afterwards the thesis focuses on cancer causes and risk factors in the countries under observation. The analysis concludes that the current mortality situation in Kazakhstan follows up long term adverse mortality trends of the past two decades and neoplasms remain an important public health problem in Kazakhstan. Key Words: mortality, cancer, malignant neoplasms, cause of death, standardized mortality rates, comparison, Kazakhstan, Czech Republic, France, Sweden
Development of mortality from malignant neoplasm of bronchus and lung in the Czech Republic
Hlávko, Petr ; Burcin, Boris (advisor) ; Lustigová, Michala (referee)
Development of mortality from malignant neoplasm of bronchus and lung in the Czech Republic Abstract Malignant neoplasm of bronchus and lung is one of the most common causes of death in the Czech Republic and this diploma thesis aims to evaluate and describe the development of mortality from this disease since the mid-nineties to the present time in the Czech Republic compared to other European countries and on district level. The main goal of this thesis is to analyze the indicators evaluating the structure and intensity of mortality on this common cause of death. The theoretical part describes the selected disease, all the important risk factors, possibilities of prevention, diagnosis, treatment and prognosis of the disease. There are some other theoretical concepts described especially the tobacco epidemic, as smoking is without a doubt the most important risk factor for this disease. Throughout the study period, mortality rates have been converging in the Czech Republic and other selected European countries for malignant neoplasm of bronchus and lung by sex when mortality has decreased significantly for men population, while for women it is slightly increasing. Keywords: mortality, cause of death, malignant neoplasm, bronchus, lung, Czech Republic
Mortality analysis of diseases caused by smoking in selected countries of the Western Europe
Vachová, Aneta ; Hulíková Tesárková, Klára (advisor) ; Kurtinová, Olga (referee)
Mortality analysis of diseases caused by smoking in selected countries of the Western Europe Abstract The main objective of the thesis is to compare smoking-related mortality trends, using analytical methods, in selected countries of Western Europe (Austria, Denmark, France, Germany, Luxembourg and the Netherlands) during 1999-2009. The development of mortality has been demonstrated by fundamental mortality indicators. Furthermore, there has been an analysis carried out in order to demonstrate a difference in temporary life expectancy at age 35-85 under the condition that smoking related causes of death were eliminated. Results of the main part of the work show that in period 1999-2009 smoking-attributable mortality declined and that if people did not die because of those diseases, temporary life expectancy at age 35-85 would increase in average by 2 and 3.6 years for women and men respectively. Temporary life expectancy was increasing during the whole study and for both sexes. Keywords: mortality, smoking, cause of death, Western Europe, sex

Further chapters contain analysis of nuptiality, natality and mortality, which includes among others marriage migration, duration of marriage, choice of spouse strategy, productivity of marriage, choice of first names, matter of illegitimate children, periods of higher mortality and causes of death.
Patterns and trends in survival: Kazakhstan and post-communist countries confronted with low mortality populations
Mukhtarova, Zhanyl ; Rychtaříková, Jitka (advisor) ; Pechholdová, Markéta (referee) ; Šídlo, Luděk (referee)
This research primarily addresses mortality patterns and trends by main causes of death in the post-communist countries of Central Asia, Central Europe and the Baltic region together with low mortality populations such as those of France, Spain and the USA. The aim of this study is to analyze the changes in the mortality levels and its structure by the main causes of death by sex and age, and confronted with low mortality populations between the period of 1985 and 2005, respectively. The first (and main) part of the work therefore focuses on cause-specific mortality levels and its relative structure by main causes of death in the selected countries. Moreover, the different patterns of excess male mortality were also observed. The second part is concentrated at the age-standardized mortality levels by main causes of death. The research identified several important issues encasing the field of mortality, especially in the cause-specific mortality situation in Central Asian republics.

Territorial differentiation of mortality in the Czech Republic
Šišková, Lucie ; Langhamrová, Jitka (advisor) ; Šimpach, Ondřej (referee)
The aim of this elaboration was to identify the character of the individual regions of the Czech Republic from the point of view of mortality. At the beginning of the elaboration the basic indicators of mortality, direct and indirect method of standardization were described in detail and then life tables were mentioned. Through the basic indicators of mortality was evaluated long-term situation in the regions. It was found out that mortality rate expressed relatively, neonatal and infant mortality rates are declining in the long-term nature, but in the past few years their values were fluctuating more. The common feature of both the Czech Republic and each region is increasing life expectancy. Life expectancy is often discussed indicator as it is closely related to the aging process. The elaboration also includes comparison of values of life expectancy in the Czech Republic with the values of selected European countries and expected trend of life expectancy in the future. Moreover, the attention is also paid to mortality in the Czech Republic in the last 20 years, focusing on the 90 years of the 20th century when there was a significant improvement in mortality rates. Conclusion of the elaboration deals with mortality by cause of death. In this part cause of death is precisely defined, the classification of cause of death is given and also the basic principles of classification are described. The analysis of mortality by cause of death in the Czech Republic and regions follows. The annex describes the procedure to calculate the complete life tables, zoning classification and the classification of cause of death are given and there are also tables with data about mortality in the years 2000-2010 for the Czech Republic and its regions.
